What is CPC?
The cost an advertiser pays per click on an ad. For DTC ecom in 2026, CPC ranges from $0.30 to $2.00 depending on platform, audience, and vertical. CPC is a midfunnel signal: low CPC with low conversion usually means the ad over-promised and the landing page underdelivered.
CPC is calculated as ad spend divided by link clicks. It is a useful diagnostic for the click-conversion gap: if CPC is healthy but post-click metrics (add-to-cart rate, ROAS) are weak, the problem is on-page rather than in the creative. Common culprits are page-message mismatch (ad promises X, page leads with Y), slow load times above 2.5 seconds on mobile 4G, and missing social proof above the fold. Kill rule for ad-level CPC during creative testing: above 2x your target CPA divided by 100.
