What is B-roll?
Supplementary footage cut into a UGC ad alongside the talking-head shot. Usually product close-ups, application shots, before-after, or environment frames. B-roll holds attention through the demo beat (seconds 7-22) when the talking head alone would feel static.
In a 30-second UGC ad with the 5-beat structure, b-roll typically appears at second 8 (first product cut), second 14 (mid-demo), and second 18 (final demo close-up). Pure talking-head ads work for 6-second sub-clips but lose retention past second 12 without visual variation. The 2026 hybrid AI workflow uses Veo 3.1 for the talking-head segments (where lip sync matters) and Sora 2 for product b-roll cuts (where visual fidelity on textures and objects matters), stitched together in post for ~$2.50 per finished ad.
